Wine Tasting at Lido di Manhattan
27 years of making Méthode Cap Classique The calling card of Graham Beck Wine Family‐owned Graham Beck sparkling wines are 100% Méthode Cap Classique which is the South African term for méthode champenoise. The Brut NV spends a minimum of two years bottle aging on the lees before disgorgement and is 100% hand-harvested estate Pinot Noir & Chardonnay. The Brut NV is an iconic wine in South Africa and abroad. This is the wine which was served at Nelson Mandela’s historic presidential inauguration. It is also favored by the Obamas who selected it to toast his election as president of the United States. Graham Beck’s Robertson estate, Madeba, is situated in the breathtaking Breede River Valley bordering the semi-arid Little Karoo region. The farm is located on the famous Route 62, a meandering country road which takes visitors on an unforgettable tour of the region’s plentiful attractions. At the Robertson cellar, Graham Beck focuses on minimal intervention, allowing the authentic essence of the fruit and terroir to shine through in the final wine. At Madeba an extensive vine renewal program has yielded outstanding results with both the red and white varieties. Great care is taken to match the unique micro-climates and diverse soil types to the most suitable varietals. The unique dry, cool climate of the Robertson region combined with the rich limestone soils produce wines with universal appeal and star quality. The state-of-the-art Cap Classique cellar delivers Méthode Champenoise style wines worthy of their reputation as amongst the best in the world. Recent developments include the addition of a restructured offloading system, which will streamline the harvesting process significantly. In the vineyards, the team is doing a test run of an experimental trellising system, which could enhance fruit quality, while new plantings of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir promise great things for the bubblies of tomorrow. “Our aim is to craft Cap Classiques of supreme quality, able to stand their own against the best Champagnes and sparkling wines of the world,” explains winemaker and clellarmaster Pietter Ferreira.
